We’re a local, all-volunteer nonprofit dedicated to supporting companion animals and the people who care for them in Cimarron, Kansas and surrounding communities. From providing pet food and essential supplies to helping families cover veterinary costs, managing feral cat populations through humane TNR, and offering community outreach and education, CAAT is here to fill the gaps. We believe no animal should suffer due to poverty, and no family should have to choose between their own needs and their pet’s wellbeing.
Cimarron Animal Action Team (CAAT, Inc.) was founded in 2025 by a group of community members who saw a growing need for animal welfare support in Cimarron and the surrounding rural areas. The organization began as a volunteer initiative and quickly gained momentum thanks to the shared vision and hard work of its founding members: Corban and Echo Garcia, Dori Hilker-Ridge, Jan McNiece, Tanya Jantz, Lisa Pickle, and Sheryl Lau.
United by a deep compassion for animals and a commitment to community support, the founding team began meeting at the Linger Gig Lab at 101 S Main St, Cimarron, KS 67835, where the first plans for CAAT’s programs and structure took shape.
In September 2025, CAAT was officially incorporated as a Kansas nonprofit organization. The team is currently in the process of securing 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status from the IRS, which will allow donations to become tax-deductible and open the door to additional grant funding.
From day one, CAAT has been 100% volunteer-run and community-driven. The organization was built to provide real, local solutions—offering pet food and supplies to families in crisis, supporting low-income pet owners with veterinary expenses, managing feral cat colonies through humane TNR efforts, and promoting responsible pet ownership through outreach and education.
What started as a conversation between neighbors has grown into a coordinated, sustainable effort to improve the lives of animals—and the people who love them—throughout Cimarron and beyond.
