At CAAT, Inc., we’re building a safety net for Cimarron’s animals and the people who care for them. While our programs are still in the planning and fundraising stages, we are laying the groundwork for a sustainable system of support. Here’s what we’re working toward — and how your support helps make it real.
Uncontrolled feral cat populations lead to suffering, disease, and a cycle of overpopulation. Our TNR program will provide a humane, effective solution. Here’s how it will work:
Humane Trapping: Volunteers and trained specialists will trap feral and stray cats safely and without harm.
Spay/Neuter Services: We’ll coordinate with veterinary partners to perform spay/neuter procedures and provide basic medical care.
Safe Return: Once recovered, cats will be returned to their home territory, healthier and unable to reproduce.
Colony Monitoring: Our team will support long-term care, track colony size and health, and intervene when needed.
Caregiver Support: We’ll train and equip local caregivers to manage colonies responsibly and humanely.
Strategic Relocation: When appropriate, feral cats unsuited for community return may be placed in barns or agricultural settings, where they provide natural rodent control — a win-win for animals and farmers alike.
Building a more compassionate future starts with education. Our outreach efforts will focus on:
Partnering with Local Schools: We'll work with Cimarron Schools to introduce students to core ideas of animal welfare, humane care, and responsible pet ownership.
Youth Engagement: Through presentations, volunteer opportunities, and animal-related projects, we’ll empower the next generation of animal advocates.
Community Events & Resources: From workshops on caring for outdoor cats to handouts on low-cost pet care options, we’ll provide tools and information for all community members.
No one should have to choose between feeding themselves and feeding their pet. In collaboration with the Gray County Food Bank, we’re preparing a system to:
Provide Emergency Relief: Pet food and essential supplies for families facing unexpected financial hardship.
Offer Ongoing Assistance: Regular pet food bank operations for low-income households.
Distribute Supplies: Collars, leashes, food bowls, bedding, toys — everything that keeps pets safe and comfortable.
Seasonal Support: Winter shelters for outdoor cats, cooling kits for pets in the summer, and more.
Emergency vet bills can be devastating. We plan to bridge the gap for families in crisis by:
Subsidizing Emergency Procedures: Financial assistance for urgent surgeries or lifesaving treatment.
Organizing Vaccination Clinics: Preventative care saves lives — we’ll host low-cost or free vaccine events as funding allows.
Partnering with Veterinarians: Collaborating with local clinics to reduce the cost of basic care and routine procedures.
Providing Transport Assistance: For families without access to reliable transportation, we’ll help pets get to appointments safely.
Each of these programs is designed to solve a piece of a larger problem: lack of access to animal care resources in rural Kansas. Every dollar raised brings us closer to launching services that prevent suffering, strengthen families, and improve our entire community.
We’re starting with what we can do now — building relationships, raising funds, and preparing to act. With your support, CAAT will be a lifeline for animals and a trusted resource for their people.
